Research

The Upper Extremity Research and Education Foundation is a leader in supporting specialized orthopaedic surgery research to improve function, alleviate pain and restore mobility. We support and undertake independent, peer-reviewed orthopaedic research and education seeking clinically relevant advancements that surgeons can implement in daily practice to help improve the quality of life of their patients. UEREF addresses the challenges seen in new and early stage research.  Our goal is to investigate scientific questions in the upper extremity and to present these findings at national and international meetings and publish these findings in peer reviewed medical journals.  We aim to facilitate the education of new researchers while encouraging the diversity of analysis and expertise. The research foundation is led by John T. Capo MD the Chief of Hand Surgery at Barnabas Health Jersey City Medical Center. His curriculum vitae includes over 500 textbook contributions, scientific article publication and national and international ongoing medical education presentations. He is a leading orthopedic surgery education instructor directing courses in advanced hand trauma techniques, upper extremity masters techniques and wrist and elbow fracture management. Research here aims to advance the technical and operational innovations to improve treatment of upper extremity trauma and preserve motion.
